On August 18, 2020August 14, 2020 By Meredith McCaskeyIn Writer's CornerLeave a comment

Nearly two years ago, I was talking on the phone with my older sister Emily, who lives in Colorado. Somehow the topic of my long-abandoned novel came up. I confessed to her that even though I was 29 and ought to have long-ago outgrown the story and characters that had originated in my 12-year-old brain, …

The novel finished on my 13th birthday evolved with me throughout my teens. I would edit it furiously for months on end, be positive that I was finished with it, stuff it away for months or a year, and then get it out and start working on it again. I wrote other things: journals, essays …

A Novel’s Story- Part 1

Time for #FridayFavorites on the blog! https://meredithmccaskey.com/2020/08/14/never-let-me-go/
I am flying through this one! I really enjoyed Station Eleven, but this is a step up for Mandel’s writing. She’s fantastic at sinking us into multiple characters’ perspectives. I love books where the reading experience feels effortless because the writing is so finely crafted. What books are like that for you?

When this little girl has a cranky morning, she likes nothing better than to cuddle with me while I read her stories. (A piece of my own heart!💓) When I found out our local library had gotten rid of their only copy of one of my very (out-of-print) favorites, I knew it was worth the $45 splurge to purchase our own copy on Abebooks.com. It arrived this past week and Muriel loves it as much as I do. I grew up with Carrie Hepple and I’m so glad my kids will too.
